Clock It

Picture
I walked into a room of glowing golden light and red velvet curtains. Performers arrived and took their seats along the far wall. A toddler stood up, holding his mother's hand, and took ungainly new steps. His meandering passage was utterly dramatic, a reminder of where all dance comes from, and set the tone - the human face of dance, an improvisation to music that is itself improvised, a delicate dance between music, distance, time, and confidence - moments that won't ever again be repeated. I was astonished by the grace and strength of the performers. It was the most beautiful dance I have seen in a long long time. It was unrehearsed. Clock It was the standout performance for me in my own festival, and I am so proud. This tribute praises David for so delicately framing art to be utterly new every time we are graced to see it.
